Victoria, Australia, September 25, 2026: iMagic Software today announced the general availability of GanttPM, a project planning application built around a real critical-path method (CPM) engine. GanttPM is free forever for local use, with a $9.99 monthly Cloud plan for teams that need sync and collaboration, and is available now at ganttpm.com.

The launch comes as Microsoft prepares to retire Project Online, its cloud-based project management service, on September 30, 2026, five days after this announcement. Microsoft confirmed the retirement in September 2025, pointing to the service’s legacy architecture, and is directing Project Online customers toward Planner or Project Server Subscription Edition. Teams that relied on Project Online for cloud scheduling need a plan for their existing project data before the cutoff. GanttPM opens Microsoft Project files in the .xml (MSPDI) format directly, carrying over tasks, the work breakdown structure, dependencies, resources and assignments, so a move away from Project Online does not mean rebuilding a schedule from scratch.

Real critical-path scheduling

GanttPM’s Gantt chart runs on a CPM engine with forward and backward pass calculations, slack calculation and automatic cascade rescheduling. It supports finish-to-start, start-to-start, finish-to-finish and start-to-finish dependencies with lag, the scheduling logic teams expect from a dedicated project planner rather than a generic task board.

One project, five views

The same project appears as a Gantt chart, Kanban board, Calendar, List and Resource view, and a change made in one view shows up in the others immediately. Teams can plan in whichever view fits the conversation, a Gantt chart for a client update or a Kanban board for a daily stand-up, without keeping separate tools in sync by hand.

Bring existing Microsoft Project files across

GanttPM imports Microsoft Project’s .xml (MSPDI) format with tasks, WBS hierarchy, dependencies, resources and assignments intact. For teams exporting a project out of a retiring Project Online tenant, this removes the need to re-enter a schedule by hand.

Resource planning built in

Teams can assign people to tasks with allocation percentages and see workload as a heatmap, making overallocation visible before it becomes a scheduling problem.

AI-generated project plans on Cloud

On the Cloud plan, teams can describe a project in plain language and get back a full task list, including titles, dates, milestones and dependencies, ready to refine in the Gantt chart.

GanttPM is available now in two plans:

  • Free (Local): $0, forever. Runs against a local database with no account required. Includes the Gantt, List, Kanban, Calendar and Resource views, CPM critical-path scheduling, baselines, Microsoft Project (.xml/MSPDI) import, undo/redo and export.
  • Cloud: $9.99 per month, billed monthly, with a 7-day free trial. Adds cloud sync across sessions and devices, task comments and file attachments, live-updating collaboration, shareable read-only links, organization roles with an audit log, and AI-generated project plans.
